Easy Rainbow Sherbet Sugar Scrub Recipe

Easy to make rainbow sherbet sugar scrub.

I don’t know about you, in this busy world, I just love creating little things, like sugar scrubs, that I can use to pamper myself.  Last Halloween, I made a fabulously luxurious pumpkin spice sugar scrub with the kids. We had so much fun making it that I thought over the summer we’d make a rainbow sherbet sugar scrub.

If you’ve made sugar scrubs before, you know the recipes are all very similar.  Sugar, oil, essential oil, coloring…place in a container. Voila, sugar scrub. It’s super easy.  So when the kids and I decided to make sugar scrubs this year we thought we would kick it up a notch by making it look completely amazing.

These rainbow sherbet sugar scrubs not only exfoliate and moisturize your skin, but they also look cute sitting by the side of your sink.  Plus they would make great gifts for the favorite ladies in your life.

So let’s get started and make some rainbow sherbet sugar scrub.

  • 1 ½  cup of Coconut Oil
  • 3 cups of Sugar
  • Lemon, Lime and orange essential oils
  • Soap or food coloring
  • Small containers with lids
  • 6 small bowls
  • 6 spoons

Before we start, I do want to share with your some random information about the items I chose to use for this diy sugar scrub.  Hopefully it can help you in making your own.

  • In this recipe, I chose to use coconut oil.  Usually, I would choose grape seed oil because of its high level of vitamin E.  It’s my favorite, but I’ve seen so many people rave about coconut oil, so I wanted to try it.  That being said, choose the carrier oil of your choice. The sugar scrub recipe will still turn out amazing.
  • Coconut oil is solid.  We want it in liquid form to while we are making our scrubs.  We set ours outside in the heat of summer for about 30 minutes, but you can just as easily put it in the microwave in increments of 15 seconds to turn it into a liquid.
  • It’s also worth noting that you don’t have to use citrus scented essential oils.  BUT, I think you should. OMG, they smell so great together, and the smell really does remind me of sherbet.
  • Now the coloring.  I recommend soap coloring, the colors always seem more vibrant to me than food coloring.  Our colors are from a bath bomb kit we bought on Amazon, but food coloring works fine too.
  • Finally, you need to decide where to store your rainbow sugar scrub when it’s done.  We used small Dollar Store candle containers that I had cleaned out after we were done using the candle.  I’ve also used small mason jars to store sugar scrub. The important thing to keep in mind when getting containers is that they need to be clear (so you can see all the colors of the scrub) and small (so you can get to the sugar scrub at the bottom).

How to make rainbow sherbet sugar scrub

Basically what we are going to do, is make six tiny bowls of sugar scrub.  We are then going to layer each of the six scrubs in a clear container. Easy peasy.

In each bowl put ½ cup of sugar and 3 tablespoons of coconut oil.  You will also want to add your coloring to the bowl. We made pink, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple…yep, it’s a rainbow of colors.  Since we were using soap coloring, we didn’t need to mix any colors. But if you are using your basic food coloring set you may need to mix your colors.

  • Yellow + Red = Orange
  • Yellow + Blue = Green
  • Blue + Red = Purple

We used about 6 drops total to make each sugar scrub bowl our desired color.  You may have to use more or less depending on the vibrancy you want in your final product.

Also add the essential oil at this point.  We made each color a different scent by adding 5 drops to each bowl. In the end,  we had 2 bowls of lime, 2 of lemon, and two of orange.

So now you have all your ingredients in each bowl all that’s left to do is mix them up.  Once mixed, you may decide to add more coloring. You might also decide that you want to add more sugar or oil depending on the consistency of the scrub.  I like mine pretty thick, but you might like it to have more oil.

Whatever you decide, in the end, you should now have 6 different colored sugar scrubs. I only grabbed 4 of them for the photo below because the kids were working away at the next step.

All that’s left is to scoop the contents of the bowls into your containers in layers. Wonderboy and  I chose to randomly scoop my colors in an erratic fashion, while Paige decided to scoop hers into a perfect rainbow.  Let your kids decide how they want to do it. As you can see from our finished scrubs they look amazing either way.
