Perler Bead Wind Spinner Patterns

The first thing you’ll need to do to make this cool wind spinner is make each of the star Perler Bead pieces.  I made two wind spinners with 3 stars on each one, but you can make yours with more stars if you wish. Or, you can only make one spinner.

The patterns for each star that I made are below, but if you are in search of other patterns you can find some really cool star Perler Bead patterns on Beady Beats.  The only REAL requirement for making your stars is that you use red, white and blue.

Below are images of the star patterns that I used.   Some I got from Beady Beats, and some I just created on my own.

Once you’ve created your Patriotic Perler Bead stars, you’ll need to iron them.   A word of caution, make sure that you don’t over iron the beads.

You’ll still need the holes in the beads to you can connect them to each other when creating the wind spinner.  If you do over iron your beads, I’ll let you know how to fix it though later on in this post.

I highly recommend putting a heavy book on your stars as they cool.  This will keep each star flat.

Creating Your Fourth of July Perler Bead Wind Spinner

So, now you have 6 (unless you made a different amount) Fourth of July Perler Bead Stars.  So let’s put them together to make a wind spinner.

This part is so easy.  Take about 6 to 8 inches of fishing line and string it through the holes of 2 stars.   Then, tie the ends together. Now, cut another 6 to 8 inches of fishing line and string it through the second star into the third star.

Yeah, I completely realize I didn’t describe it well.  I guess my gift of words has left me for the moment.

BUT, they do say a picture is worth a thousand words, so I took a picture of it so you can see how they are connected.  Excuse the blurry photo, it happens sometimes.  You can see from it though how the fishing line is threaded through the holes in the beads.

You may have noticed from the image above that the knot looks pretty huge.  That’s because the next step is to put a drop of glue on the knot so it stays secure.

You can skip this step if you know how to tie a secure knot in fishing line.  I don’t. So, I glued it.

All it takes is one dab of E6000 glue.   Super glue would work too. Actually if you have super glue, it might work better because it dries faster.   If you use E6000 you’ll need to let the glue dry for a few hours before finishing your Fourth of July Perler Bead wind spinner.

You’re also going to want to tie a loop of fishing line on the top of your wind spinner so you can hang it.

The last step in creating this wind spinner is trimming the fishing line so that you don’t have a ton of excess on your patriotic creation.

Tips and Tricks for your Patriotic Perler Bead Wind Spinner

  • I used fishing line because it could easily stay outside FOREVER, but you can always use thread.
  • If you over melt your beads to the point that you can’t thread the fishing line through it use a thumb tack to poke a hole in the bead you want to use.
  • Another bonus to using fishing line is that the knots aren’t solid until you glue it.   So, if you pull on the fishing line by the ends you can shorten the distance between the Perler Bead pieces easily.
  • This Perler Bead wind spinner is a craft specifically made for the Fourth of July, but using other colors of colors can make is suitable for any holiday.  Or just use a rainbow of colors for an “all the time” wind spinner.
  • Your Fourth of July wind spinner can easily be hung from a tree by making the loop at the top large enough to fit over the leaves.
