Easy Perler Bead Christmas Ornaments 2

Perler Bead Christmas Ornaments

A fun craft for the holidays. These easy Perler Bead Christmas ornaments will make a great addition to your tree.

For as long as I can remember we’ve had Perler Bead creations hanging from our tree.  Most are simple. All we did was thread an ornament hook through one of the holes of the sprite on the top.

There’s nothing wrong with them.  In fact, these simple Perler Bead ornaments are precious to me.  They were some of the first that my kids made when they were small.  That being said, this year I thought of a way to spruce up simple Perler Bead sprites to make them even more amazing when hanging from the tree.

Before I show you how to make these easy Perler Bead ornaments, I want you to know that you TOTALLY don’t have to make them like me.  I chose to use snowflakes on my ornaments. You could make Santa, snowmen, bells, or even something that isn’t Christmas themed.

That’s what make these Christmas ornaments the perfect gift.  You can make them based on what the recipient loves. Have a bird lover in your life, add a bluebird.  If your recipient is a video game lover, make a sprite for their favorite game. The possibilities are endless.

So let’s get started and make these easy Perler Bead Christmas ornaments.

Supplies needed for Perler Bead ornaments

  • Unfinished wooden ornaments (I got them here, but I’ve seen similar items for sale at local craft stores
  • Small Perler Bead sprites
  • Acrylic craft paint (We used those little bottles you can buy at craft stores, like these)
  • Paint brush
  • Little cups for mixing the paint
  • Hot glue  and hot glue gun

The size of ornaments that you buy will dictate the Perler Bead sprite that you can use.  You need the sprite to be able to fit onto the ornament without hanging off of it. Our ornaments were 2 ¾ inches across.  So, the sprites needed to be smaller than that.

I’ve got many MANY easy AND small patterns throughout this site.  If you want yours to look like mine, check out this post on how to make Perler Bead snowflakes.  If you’re looking for a Christmas vibe, I’ve got 10 easy Christmas patterns for you. How to make Perler Bead Christmas ornaments

The first thing you will have to do to make these easy ornaments is paint the unfinished wooden ones.  Like I said above, we will use acrylic paint. I chose to water it down to give it an almost stained effect.  It also makes the paint go on much quicker and smoother. Added bonus is that the watered down paint also dries quicker.

So, pour a dollop of paint in one of your plastic cups and then add about the same amount of water.  Mix well. You will then have a watered down paint that you can put on the front and back of each ornament.  Of course, you’ll want to paint one side, let it dry for about 15 – 20 minutes and THEN flip it over to paint the other side.

Once both sides of your ornaments are dry all that’s left to do is glue a Perler Bead sprite onto the painted wooden ornament.  For this I used hot glue. It doesn’t take much to make your design stick.

Finally, add a ribbon or twine to the ornament so you can hang it on your tree.  Ours came with twine, so that’s what we used.

I finally found a way to make all these amazing pearl designs without any peg board. I was able to iron my beads just as if I had used a peg board and my project had slipped off the paper. To protect your iron, always use ironing paper to cover the pearl beads. Either parchment paper or wax paper works alongside reusable ironing paper. You may not need to buy them separately as some bead packages already include ironing paper.
