Have you ever wanted to make a Perler Bead snowflake? OMG, you guys!!! You really need to try it. They are so awesome.
I got a bug to make a Perler Bead snowflake last Christmas when I made my easy Christmas Perler Bead patterns post. The one I made was simple, but it really made me want to make more.
I honestly didn’t have the time or the supplies needed to make them, so my snowflake dreams went on the back burner.
Now it’s winter again, so I decided to break down and buy the pegboard I needed to make a multitude of snowflakes from Perler Beads.
Holy smokes, they are both easy and fun to make. Plus, like real snowflakes each one is unique. It’s a great craft for your kids to make, and if you put some string on them, they would make great Christmas tree ornaments.
In this post, I’m going to share with you the 9 snowflakes I made from Perler Beads. I’m also going to give you some tips and tricks to help you learn to design your own one of a kind snowflakes.
Let’s get started.
Supplies needed for Perler Bead snowflakes

- White Perler Beads
- Large hexagon pegboard
- Ironing paper
- Iron
So, the larger hexagon pegboard is what makes beautiful snowflakes from Perler Bead possible. You must have one. I’ve never seen one sold separately, but you can buy one in a set. I’ve included the amazon link above to a pegboard set. It’s actually the set I wish I would have bought because it also has the large heart, star, and circle.

Perler Bead Snowflake Patterns
Below are pictures with the patterns for 8 different Perler Bead snowflakes. They are here for you to use for your own designs, but I will encourage you to deviate from the pattern that is in the picture. It’s really easy and so much fun.
Creating your own unique Perler Bead Snowflake
You may have seen my patterns and want to try your own. Don’t hesitate. It’s so easy! All you have to do is start with a center, and then work your way up each of the 6 lines in the hexagon. These 6 lines divide the pegboard into 6 equal sections. Each of the 6 sections on the pegboard need to be identical to make an amazing Perler Bead snowflake.
You can easily find the lines by starting in each of the 6 corners of the hexagon pegboard.
So once you create the center of the snowflake, start placing beads on one line in a fun pattern, and then repeat what you do for each of the remaining lines. You can then interlink the sections of snowflake by placing beads on all the pegs in between.
You can see on the image of the large snowflake below how I followed the 6 lines almost all the way to the edge of the pegboard. And then created the actual snowflake pattern around those lines.
As your making your snowflake, don’t even worry a bit if you don’t like what you see. Move a few beads and you’ll have a whole different look. BUT if you do move a few beads make sure to move the same beads in each of the six sections.
Tips and tricks for making Perler Bead snowflakes
- Yes, I made my snowflakes white, like actual snow. BUT, don’t be afraid to try other colors. Snowflakes look great in clear or blue too. I almost used glow in the dark blue for them, since it has a translucent color. Heck, make any color snowflake you or your kids like. Part of the fun of Perler Beads is being creative.
- Get creative by replacing some of the beads with an alternate color. That’s what I did when I replaced the white Perler Beads with a few light blue beads in my large snowflake above.
- Ironing smaller snowflakes is pretty easy. Just make sure that you iron them very well since they are sometimes only connected with one row of beads.
- Ironing larger flakes are more of a challenge. It’s only harder because your iron isn’t as large as the pegboard and it’s easy for the beads to slip. Just make sure to not flip the beads until all the beads are fully melted on one side and you’ll be fine.
- You can easily turn your snowflakes into Christmas tree ornaments. Just thread a needle with some packing twine and poke it through the hole on the top of snowflake. Tie the twine so there is a loop at the top to make it easy to hang on the tree.
- If you want your snowflakes to be extra snazzy. Add some crystal embellishments onto your snowflake. I wouldn’t recommend gluing them on but amazon has these great crystal gem stickers that would be amazing.
- The last thing I want to mention is that these Perler Bead snowflakes are fragile. So, don’t plan on using them as key chains. They can be glued on to anything as decoration though.
