Easy To Make Perler Bead Phone Stand

DIY Perler Bead Phone Stand

This easy to make Perler Bead phone stand makes the perfect gift.

I’ve wanted to make a phone stand from Perler Beads for a long time.  I’ve seen some very cool and intricate ones in my wanderings of the web.  Perler even has a pattern on their website for a really cool phone stand that I wanted to make.  The problem has always been that none of the one’s I’ve seen would fit my very large phone with it’s Pop Socket.

So, I made a simple one that fits my phone and Pop Socket at the same time.  It’s not fancy, but it does the job.  I’ve actually been using it for a couple of months because I was worried it was going to break, and I didn’t want to share something with you that was just going to end up being completely useless.

It didn’t break, and now I think I’m making another so I can also have one on my desk at work.  The great thing about this is you can rest your phone on it vertically or horizontally, and if you set it up correctly, you can even charge your phone while using it.

So let’s get started…

    • One large Perler Bead pegboard
    • Perler Beads, any color
    • Iron
    • Ironing paper

This project would actually be perfect for any beads you have in a mixed bucket that you never plan on sorting.  Of course, you can always make a cool pattern too.  The pattern I made is not really a cool pattern, I made it this way so you can easily follow the pattern on the board.

Below is the pattern that I used for my phone.

If you want your phone to be able to sit vertically on your phone stand you might need to make some adjustments to the pattern. You will want the tall part of the stand to rest high enough up on the phone so that it doesn’t tip over.  I’d say about ¾ of the way up the phone.  Check out the image below to see where the stand hits on the back of my phone.

My phone, with case, is just over 6 ½ inches tall.  If your phone is taller than that you have enough room on the pegboard to add two more rows.  I would start on the bottom and make the pattern as above.  When you get toward the top of the pattern where there are 4 across I would add a row or two of 4 across and then continue on with the pattern.

There’s a good chance you won’t have to make any adjustments because my phone is pretty big.

Once you’ve determined if you can use my patterns as is, you can just follow the pattern by putting the Perler Beads on the pegboard.

Ironing your cell phone stand

So now that you have all your beads on the pegboard, it’s time to iron your pattern.  The key to making this phone stand is that you only iron on one side of it.

Let me say that again.  Only iron one side of the cell phone stand.

I said it twice because, even though I knew to only iron one side, I ironed on both sides…twice, before I finally did it right.  What a waste of beads…geesh.

You want to make sure you do a pretty good melt, but you don’t want the holes to close. You will want to put a heavy book on top of it while it’s cooling to keep the project flat.

Finishing off your stand

Once it’s completely cooled, you just need to fold your piece in half.  The ironed part will be on the inside holding the whole thing together, and the unironed side gives it the flexibility to be able to fold easily.  If you check out the picture above again you can see how the non ironed beads are on the outside.

Don’t be scared, if you did a good job ironing your piece should stay together perfectly.  It’s some kind of magic, I swear.

All that’s left to do is add your phone.

Now when I first made mine I did need to adjust the stand until it fit the phone.  Yeah, I know, they are plastic beads, you can’t adjust them.

Oh, but you can.

You just need to squeeze the two sides together up the whole thing and it will make the base where the phone goes smaller, and it magically stays that way.  Again, don’t worry about breaking it. The stand just doesn’t seem to break if you are folding with the un-melted beads on the outside.

And that’s it!  You just made a simple Perler Bead cell phone stand.  I love mine and I use it all the time.  One of these days, I might make a fancy one, but this works for me now.
