Making the Perler Bead sprites
For this craft, you will need to make some Perler Bead sprites. I used some cute butterflies and a flower that I had made for a spring time Perler Bead post. If you want to use the same sprites as me, you can see the post at the link below.
That being said, you can use any pattern to make your Perler Bead garden stakes. I would just make sure it’s not super small, and it’s not bigger than a large Perler Bead pegboard.
These easy DIY garden markers would look cute in a houseplant that you’re gifting. Think of the amazing personal touch you could give to your friends or family by having your kids make a sprite to add to a housewarming gift.
I also thought it would be really cute to make vegetable sprites and turn them into garden markers for your vegetable garden.

Making your Perler Bead garden stakes
Once you’ve created your sprite, you’re ready to make it into a cute garden stake. All you really have to do it glue a bamboo skewer on the back of the Perler Bead sprite. There are a few tips that I wanted to share to make it even easier.
- First off, I chose to use E6000 glue for this project because it is very durable. If your garden stakes will be outside in the elements you want a glue that is going to stick. I have never had a glue fail with E6000, but I’ve had many when using hot glue.
- Next, you will want to protect your work surface with a piece of wax paper. Your glue shouldn’t leak down unto the surface, but if it does, it’s better to be safe than sorry.
- When gluing your skewer to your Perler Bead sprite, put the glue onto the sprite. Then place the bamboo skewer on the sprite. At the opposite end of the skewer, put another random sprite to hold up the skewer so that it will dry straight.
- E6000 glue takes about 24 hours to dry. So, put another layer of wax paper on top of your Perler Bead garden stakes while they are drying and then add a heavy book to the top of it so that the skewers will be solidly attached to the sprite.
That’s it! Once your DIY garden stakes have dried, you can place them in a pot or in the garden. If you find that the skewers are too long for your pot, you can easily break the end of the skewer off by scoring it with scissors. It will snap easily.
