It’s no secret that we are big fans of the game Minecraft. So when Wonder Boy said he wanted to make Valentine cards for his class this year, I thought making something Minecraft themed would be a great idea.
We brainstormed for quite awhile, we scoured the web, and then we finally decided that we would make Perler Bead heart magnets and glue them on to a card. That way the kids in his class would not only get a great looking card, but they would have the heart magnet to keep as a gift.
I have to admit these were so much easier to make than I thought they would be. I thought for sure that I’d regret telling him we would make them and we’d be at the grocery store the day before Valentine’s Day searching through the picked over cards looking for something for him to give to his class. But we got them done with no problems at all.
So let’s get started making some Minecraft Perler Bead Valentines.

If you are new to the marvelous world of Perler Beads you may want to read my Ultimate Perler Bead Beginner’s Guide before you get started. It’s a great tutorial on crafting with fuse beads.
Now before we get started I want to let you know that this is not one of my most detailed tutorials. I really only want it to be used for inspiration and a few tips on how to make it. This is mostly because I know everyone has different word processing programs they are going to use. I used Microsoft Publisher to make my cards, and many people don’t have Publisher. But the exact same thing can be achieved by using Google Docs, Photoshop or even Microsoft Word.
Making Minecraft Perler Bead Hearts
We found that we could fit 4 hearts on one large pegboard. You could also create small hearts and fit more on the board or even do larger ones and put less on one pegboard. It’s really up to you. I know the idea of making 20 plus hearts sounds daunting, so you may want to go smaller. Although, in all honesty, with both of us working on them making the hearts didn’t take long at all.
Unfortunately, I didn’t get a real close up of the hearts on the pegboard for you to use as a pattern, but below you’ll find a picture of the finished hearts that you can hopefully use for a pattern.
If you want to make smaller hearts, I do have some designs on my Valentine’s Perler Bead patterns post. They aren’t necessarily Minecraft themed, but you can easily outline them in black to make them look like they came from Minecraft.
Anyway, you’ll need to make enough hearts for each Valentine you plan to make. Create the hearts on the pegboards and then iron them all. Since we are making them into magnets, you will want to make sure that when they cool they are really flat. To do that, just place some heavy books on the Minecraft hearts as they cool.
Creating the Magnets
Ok, now you have 20 some Perler Bead Minecraft hearts. Let’s make them into magnets. Making Perler Bead magnets is easy if you have the right crafting supplies. I highly recommend using round ceramic magnets and E6000 glue. Why? Because I’ve used them a lot and they don’t fail.
There’s nothing worse than having the magnets fall off the Perler Bead sprite. Well unless the magnet isn’t strong enough to hold up. That’s bad too.
So try to avoid magnet fail by using the correct products. I’m not saying that other things won’t work, they might. I just want to set you up for success.
Basically all you do to turn your Perler Bead sprites into magnets is glue a magnet on the back of each heart. Easy, peasy, right? There are several steps involved in making sure it’s done right, but I’ve already wrote a post on making Perler Bead magnets. So check it out for more detailed instructions.
One tip I will give you is make sure to put wax paper on the bottom and on the top of your magnets as they dry. It will help avoid any accidents with the glue.
Creating the Minecraft Perler Bead Valentines
After the glue has dried, you now have a ton of Minecraft hearts that are ready to be placed on cards.
Of course, you have to create the cards. I’m not going to go into a lot of detail on how I created my cards because I know everyone had different software that they prefer to use. Plus you may have used a different size heart than I did. So, you may need to make smaller cards.
What I will give you though is the link to this Minecraft font that you can download and use on your computer. That way you can personalize your Valentine cards anyway that you like.
You can see that I just chose to use text boxes with the words “Be Mine” in the Minecraft font on the front of the card. I then put a box around the card I was cutting out. I also put “To:” and “From;” on the back of the card. Although I could have typed in the names, I chose to let Wonder Boy do that part so it seemed more personal.
Since I used text boxes, it was easy to size and put multiple cards on a sheet of cardstock. Oh, and yes, I did use cardstock to make my Minecraft Perler Bead Valentines so that the cards would be sturdy.
Once you’ve designed your cards, you’ll need to print them and then cut them out. I used a paper cutter, but if you don’t have one scissors work too.
All that’s left to do now is to add the Perler Bead hearts to your cards. Use a hot glue gun. It dries quickly and will be easy for kids to tear off the cards to use the heart as a magnet.
This really was a great fun project that Wonder Boy and I did together. It was perfect for us, since we both love Minecraft and so do many of his peers. I hope you enjoy making Minecraft Perler Bead Valentines with your child.
