If you’ve read any of my other posts you may have noticed I don’t buy buckets of beads. I’m too lazy to sort them. But I did buy the Sunny Days bucket to take a photo of the lovely shades of pastel Perler Beads in the bucket. In fact, this bucket has been on my shelf for almost a year gathering dust.
One day I was organizing my beading supplies and went to take the pegboards out of the bucket to put with the other pegboards.
OMG, the pegboards are awesome. You get 2 flower pegboards and a butterfly pegboard. Anyway, I brought the bucket out and we got to beading. It was so much fun, that I wanted to share our creations with you and let you know how this amazing bucket of beads can help your family get in the mood to celebrate spring.
Creating springtime Perler Beads
Now, if you’ve never used Perler Beads before I’ve got this Ultimate Perler Bead beginners guide to help you out. In my Perler Bead tutorial, one of the things I talk about is supplies. The Sunny Days Perler Bead bucket actually would make the perfect started bucket as it contains pegboards, beads and ironing paper. It also has the added bonus of tweezers.
What makes this activity so easy is that the pegboards are shaped like flowers and a butterfly. The perfect icons of spring. All you need to do it pick a pegboard, and fill it up with the colors of your choice. Voila springtime Perler Beads!
The shaped pegboards make it so easy for both kids and adults to make perfect patterns every time. Plus the Sunny Days Perler Bead bucket is filled with all the colors of spring. There are several pinks, a purple, blues, peach, yellow, orange and green. There are even some translucent beads which would make amazing wings for your Perler Bead butterfly.
Now, of course, I want to show you what we did with the pegboards to give you some ideas of the flexibility of the pegboards.
Springtime Perler Bead examples
Below you’ll find some images made with the Sunny Days Perler Bead bucket. Hopefully, they will give you some inspiration when you make your own Perler Bead creations. We only used the colors from the unsorted bucket, unless noted. So the bucket contains enough beads to make them all. PLUS, we’ve got a ton of Perler Beads left over. We could easily make twice as many.
The first picture is made with the pegboard that had a stem. I didn’t like the stem, so I didn’t use it. Instead I just made the two stemless flowers pictured below.
Aren’t they cute?
You can see that by filling them in differently, the Perler Bead flowers look completely different. There are so many ways that you could fill this pegboard in to get different results. Heck, you could even use the stem.
The second flower pegboard in the Sunny Days Perler Bead bucket is so versatile that I even made a smiling sunshine. I have to admit the sunshine wasn’t my own idea, I just altered one that Perler had made. Either way, it’s super cute.
I love the little flower too. To me, I think the way that I colored it makes it look like a daffodil. You can, of course, change the way it looks. That’s one of the great things about this pegboard, it gives you the shape, you just have to fill in the colors.
Next, you have to check out these cute little butterflies. They both look different, but were made on the on the same butterfly Perler Bead pegboard.
Now I have to admit, the next butterfly picture does use colors that aren’t in the bucket. Paige wanted to sit down and bead with us. I was super excited because she rarely does. Once she got going she wanted to make a tie dye butterfly. She just HAD to have a brown body, and she wanted some blue for the wings. I let her create away and it turned out great.
So if you have other colors in your Perler Bead arsenal, don’t hesitate to use them when creating these fun patterns for springtime Perler Beads. They will look amazing.
Springtime Perler Beads for the smallest tots
One of the things I remember when Paige was very small was that she would get super frustrated when trying to make Perler Bead projects. She was around 4 years old, and sticking with an idea was hard for her. Instead, she just liked to fill in a shaped pegboard in random colors. Believe it or not, the results of the random assortment of beads was always lovely.
So when I saw these simple flower shaped pegboards, I was instantly transported back in time. I thought these pegboards would look amazing with a random Perler Bead look.
So I did it!
They do look amazing; check out the photo below. What that means for you is that you can even let your smallest Perler Bead artist join in on the fun with little frustration.
So there you have an easy project for you to make with your kids to help them get in the mood for spring. All you need is the Sunny Days Perler Bead bucket and your imaginations. Just think of all the springtime Perler Bead creations you can make.
Pro tip: Decorate your fridge for springtime by adding some magnets to the back of these pieces of art. You can get full instructions on how in my Minecraft Perler Bead Magnet post.
