I have got such a simple DIY Christmas ornament for you today. It only takes a couple of supplies and a few minutes to make these Perler Bead candy cane ornaments.
I took inspiration from a post I saw on Pinterest using pony beads. Now, I’ve got nothing against pony beads, but I thought the finished candy cane’s looked a bit thick for my tastes. So, I decided to use something I already had on hand…Perler Beads.
If you are looking for a simple ornament to make with you kids, THIS IS IT!!
It’s so easy, and no joke really took me less than 5 minutes to make one. I know when I’m crafting with my kids, one of the things I’m worried about is that they will lose interest before the project is complete. No chance with these Perler Bead candy canes.

- Red and white Perler Beads
- White pipe cleaners/chenille stems
That’s it! In all honesty, you don’t even need white and red Perler Beads, you could make them in any color Perler Beads. How fun would it be to make rainbow candy canes? Or to match them to the colors on your tree?
Making Perler Bead candy cane ornaments
Start by cutting one of your pipe cleaners in half.
Next, bend a pipe cleaner at one end to keep the Perler Beads from falling off. I basically just made a little hook at the end. You can’t see it though because it’s covered in chenille.
Now, you need to thread each Perler Bead onto the pipe cleaner. Once it’s filled with beads bend the end again.
Finally shape it into a hook shape to make it look like a candy cane.
So easy, right? You can use your Perler Bead candy canes to decorate your tree, attach to gifts, add to a wreath or garland. Or, if your like me, you can give them to your Funko Pop to help get them in the mood for the holiday.
